Why does it work? Viruses are anaerobic; they cannot exist in an elevated oxygen environment. Viruses can only replicate within a cell. The virus will not leave the host cell; if it does it will be killed off by the high oxygen content. Further viruses have a positive charge. An oxygen molecule is missing an electron from its outer orbit and will immediately seek out positively charged viruses or anaerobic bacteria removing an electron from their orbit instantly killing the microorganism.
